Kuressaare Castle reopened with cannon salvo
One of the most popular tourist sites on the island of Saaremaa, Kuressaare Castle, has opened its doors again. The 2+2 rule remains in the museum, which was closed for more than two months as a result of th epandemic. Tour groups may not exceed 10 people, including the guide. The museum was reopened on May 20, with cannon fire heralding the event.
Head of the museum Rita Valge explained that they had been closed for 68 days. "This is quite a long time, and the period during which we were closed is quite popular for student trips," she said, confirming that the estimated number of visitors during this time could have numbered around 6,000.
"It is not ruled out that we could open an exhibition about plague or viruses through different time eras, everything is possible," Valge went on.
Kuressaare Episcopal Castle, founded in the 14th Century by the Teutonic Order, hence its name, is open from Wednesdays to Sundays from 11 a.m - 6 p.m (local Estonian time). The ticket office is open until 5 p.m.
