Ministry: Tourism between Estonia, Finland restored when both states ready
Commuting between Estonia and Finland is permitted for workers and students, but tourists cannot move freely just yet. Estonia and Finland plan on opening borders for visitors at the same time.
Tourism between Estonia and Finland should be restored when it doesn't pose any risk to health and when both countries are ready for it, the foreign ministry's communications adviser Pia Kuusik told ERR's online news on Monday.
According to her, one-sided tourism towards Finland is currently not an option.
"Right now we are mutually mirroring travel conditions with Finland. Discussions over how to open borders are held on both political and administrative level," Kuusik said, adding that the Finnish government will discuss further steps on opening borders next week.
From May 14, various categories of traveler are permitted to access Finland, including students studying in Finland, travelers with employment contracts, transaction-management contracts and other contracted workers.
