Meteorologist: Warm weather up to 25C expected next week
Estonia is set for its first proper summer weather next week, with the mercury reaching 25C in places.
"It is hard to believe right now that [temperatures of] 25C are coming, but the general, various forecasts are quite unanimous that it will be warm," Taimi Paljak, Environment Agency (Keskkonnaagentuur) meteorologist and ETV weather forecaster, told morning magazine show "Terevisioon" Thursday.
While the warmer weather brings with it hopes that water temperatures will also rise, wind also plays a role here, Paljak said.
"If the wind is strong, it mixes layers of water, and then it doesn't warm up so rapidly," Paljak explained, adding that while in some inlets, such as in Haapsalu, water temperatures are already at 15C, off Tallinn the water is colder, at below 10C.
Thursday itself started cloudy, particularly in eastern Estonia, which will also see rain. Morning temperatures stand at 11-14C.
Rain will become more widespread through the day, with temperatures reaching as high as 17C at opposite ends of the mainland, in Lääne and Võru counties, with a northeasterly wind of 4-9 m/s in gusts of up to 13 m/s on the north cost.
The islands will be the coolest region, at 13-14C.
