Estonia to send special flight to Turkmenistan, bring citizen home
Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu said that the government has decided to order an evacuation flight to bring one Estonian citizen back home from Turkmenistan for medical care.
According to Reinsalu, the government found that ordering a special flight is unavoidable as Turkmenistan has closed its air space.
Additionally, the special flight is a medical flight organized in cooperation with the Tallinn's ambulance service (Kiirabi).
Reinsalu added that the flight will cost €43,000.
Chief medical officer of Tallinn' ambulance service, Raul Adlas, told ERR that the high cost simply comes from the bill that was presented to them.
"It is a complicated logistics operation. A flight so far costs a lot. Only the patient will be on the plane, along with medics," Adlas said.
He specified that the person does not have the coronavirus, but is in need of medical assistance.
The flight to Turkmenistan will take off on Saturday.
