Eesti Kontsert to open their concert halls
After a three-month-long break due to the coronavirus pandemic, state-operated concert organizerEesti Kontsert will open the doors of their concert halls on June 8, and tickets sales will start.
There will be a new chamber music series in Tallinn in the summer program, concerts in Ida-Viru County, and concert evenings in Kuressaare and Haapsalu, dedicated to the admirers of the Saare County Opera Days and the Tchaikovsky Festival.
"This spring was difficult for everybody and the restoration of the normal life rhythm will take time. We want to help people forget about the past quickly to face the summer happier," Eesti Kontsert manager, Kertu Orru said.
Orro added that smartphones had been irreplaceable substitutes during the quarantine, but she realizes that people are missing live music. In July and August, the concert nights, replete with the Eesti Kontsert quality mark, are back, and now the public can come to listen and watch again.
The program will start on July 1 at the Tallinn Taani Kuninga garden. Hortus Musicus will give a free concert there.
From July 2, the guests are invited to the Kadriorg chamber music concerts on Thursdays. At the premiere night of the "Suveklassika Kadriorus" series, Eesti Kontsert will celebrate the birthday of the "In Horto Regis". The program is called "Euro Hits Back from Centuries", where popular numbers from the Middle Ages to the Baroque era will be performed.
The ensemble's artistic manager, Andres Mustonen said that famous songs have never been set back by the state borders. "We didn't have weekly charts but we had some real hits, which were known and sung and played from Lisbon to Uppsala, from Praha to London - just like today."
The summer music can be heard in Kadriorg on seven consecutive Thursdays, from July 2 to August 13. The concert night "Armastuskirjad" will end the series, where composer Mart Saar's creation can be heard and where actress Anu Lamp will present fragments of letters to the composer's lovers.
On the same day, July 2, the special program "Seitsme linna muusika" taking place every summer will start in Ida-Viru County.
The concerts will take place in Ida-Viru County, Kohtla-Nõmme, Toila Oru and Jõhvi. Musicians Raivo Tafenau, Erki Pärnoja, Birgit Sarrap, Lauri Liiv, Siim Aimla, Eleryn Tiit, Puuluup, Vaiko Eplik, Jaan Pehk, Helin-Mari Arder, and others will be performing. The concerts of the "Seitsme linna muusika" will take place from July 2-18.
Though the Saare County's Opera Day and the Tchaikovsky Festival were postponed until next year, Eesti Kontsert will organize two concert nights inspired by the two festivals. One will take place on July 25 in the Kuressaare Kuursaal and the other on August 21, in the Haapsalu Toomkirik.
"People were waiting for the traditional festivals but the coronavirus crossed out our plans. We are so glad that due to the gradual relaxing of the restrictions we can still offer something positive and memorable to the people of Haapsalu and Saare County," Orro said.
Performed by the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra (Tallinna Filharmoonia), in the first half of the concert you can listen to Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for strings" under the vaults of Haapsalu Cathedral. In the second part of the concert, musician Marko Matvere and conductor Tõnu Kaljuste will perform sea songs amidst the walls of the renovated fortress of Haapsalu. In addition to the maritime theme, there are also musical remarks on topics related to Haapsalu and Tchaikovsky.
The summer program will end with three concerts on Saturday, August 29, at Tallinn Music Week - postponed from its traditional slot in March - at Kai Kunstikeskus, where percussion virtuosos will compete on acoustic and VR simulation instruments and where harpsichord, Estonian kantele, recorder and analog synthesizers will come together. The chamber choir Collegium Musicale will also perform.
The regulations from the Health Board are to be followed everywhere in the concert venues. Eesti Kontsert asks the audience to keep their distance (i.e. two meters-ed.), wash and disinfect their hands and stay home when sick. The ticket offices of the concert halls are open from Monday, June 8. Tartu Vanemuine Concert Hall will be closed this summer due to renovations.
