Gallery: Raekoja plats businesses cut food, drinks prices even further
Cafes, bars and restaurants on Raekoja plats in Tallinn's Old Town have cut their prices even further in an effort to attract domestic customers after coronavirus social distancing restrictions were lifted.
Beer prices, in particular, have dropped. On Friday afternoon some beers were priced as low as €3.50, ERR reported, with several premises offering 2-for-1 deals.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, a beer in the tourist hotspot of Tallinn's Old Town could cost three times as much.
One restaurant, Maharaja, was at the time of writing offering 2-for-1 on half a liter of beer which was advertised at €3.90, meaning €1.95 per beer.
Meanwhile, Maikrahv, a restaurant, sold lunch courses such as soup or a burger for under €5, unheard of price levels before the emergency situation.
Cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are available for around €5.
Foreign tourism practically dried up when the pandemic and the emergency situation were introduced in March. But warmer weather and relaxing restrictions encouraged businesses to open their outdoor terraces and reduce prices to attract more local customers to venues often seen as expensive tourist traps.
Please note, customers should be aware that 2-for-1 deals do not always have the price clearly advertised and so always check this first before deciding.
