Supeluse Street in Pärnu to be closed for car drivers in summer
Supeluse Street, which leads to the beach from the city center in Pärnu, will be closed on Sunday. The closed area is located between the Esplanaadi and Tammsaare Boulevard.
Supeluse Street will be car-free until August 9, so that there will be more space for pedestrians and cyclists. Signs prohibiting the movement of motor vehicles and physical barriers will be placed on the street, reports "Aktuaalne kaamera".
"The future and longer-term plan envisage that in a few years' time Supeluse Street will be one-way, and we are actively working to implement this construction plan. This is also the first attempt to show everyone that it is a pleasant and necessary idea," said Rainer Aavik, Deputy Mayor of Pärnu.
Crossing streets can still be driven through by car. Garbage trucks and vans can still drive on Supeluse Street, and locals can pass the street and get home by car.
As the right-hand rule still applies in the area, cyclists driving along Supeluse Street must consider that they do not always have the privilege and it is necessary to let through the car on the right.
"Those who consider it necessary to come to the beach by car, it is worth using Aia and Tammsaare Street. There is enough space for pedestrians and a park front to move through anyway," Aavik added.
