Border guards find 30 people in van
Border guards in southeastern Estonia discovered nearly 30 people inside a van whose driver had ignored the authorities' stop signal. The van itself was reportedly designed to accommodate around six people.
At noon on Tuesday, border guards in the village of Pliia, Võru County noticed a Mercedes van making suspicious maneuvers, the driver of which ignored both the requirements of the traffic sign as well as the stop signal given by the border guards.
After driving a bit further, the driver finally stopped the vehicle. Upon inspection, the border guards discovered a total of 30 people in the vehicle, although, according to its manufacturer, the van was intended to only carry six people.
The driver was not found to be intoxicated.
The majority of those sitting in the seats, and on the floor of the vehicle, were children, who the driver said he wanted to take swimming. Border guards initiated proceedings against the driver in violation of the Traffic Act.
