Estonian Film Institute launches website for short films
The Estonian Shorts page brings together the most outstanding domestic short films of recent years, bringing together short animations, short feature films, and short documentaries. The page is in both English and Estonian, targeting both domestic and international audiences. All films are available free of charge.
Estonian Shorts is the first website in Estonia exclusively for short films. The aim of the page is to increase the viewer's awareness of short films and to introduce the audience to fresh voices in our film landscape.
A channel is a necessary tool for embassies than for smaller international festivals, which are looking for films that are a few years old or want to get acquainted with the authors' previous works. At the same time, Estonian Shorts serves as a business card for Estonian authors.
Several films found on the Estonian Shorts website have participated in well known international film festivals such as Sundance, Annecy, Fredrikstad, Ottawa.
Unlike paid VOD (video on demand) platforms, Estonian Shorts focuses on films with a festival and cinema distribution behind them.
As, short films are often overlooked on conventional TV and large VOD platforms, Estonian Shorts aims to provide an environment where short films can stand out.
The page introduces the work of both experienced and young directors. Animated films such as "Manivald" (director Chintis Lundgren), "Sounds Good" (Sander Joon) and "Fatcula" (Martinus Klemet) and short docks from authors such as Heilika Pikkov, Taavi Arus and Nora Särak are also represented. For example, Janno Jürgens' "They say tomatoes love rock music" ("Räägitakse, et tomatid armastavad rokkmuusikat") and Marta Pulga's satirical short film "True" ("Omad") can be found on the platform.
In addition to movies, the site focuses on the latest short film news. The audience should also keep an eye on their account on Instagram for information. The selection of films on the Estonian Shorts page is constantly being expanded.
The Estonian Shorts platform is managed by the Estonian Film Institute. The website is developed by WWWstuudio.
