Nechayeva: Eurovision movie has something to laugh about
American comedian Will Ferrell's recent comedy movie "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" features Estonian singer and 2018 entrant Elina Nechayeva.
Nechayeva told "Ringvaade" that she played herself in the movie, singing with Eurovision legends. "I was very surprised that I was invited to be one of the 'winners' of Eurovision," she added.
"Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" is a 2020 American musical comedy film directed by David Dobkin (Fred Claus) and written by Andrew Steele (Saturday Night Live) and Will Ferrell (Anchorman). The film follows Icelandic singers Lars Erickssong [sic] and Sigrit Ericksdottir (Ferrell and Rachel McAdams) as they are given the chance to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The cast includes Pierce Brosnan (Mamma Mia, GoldenEye 007), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), and Demi Lovato (Camp Rock) also star in the movie. In addition, Irish chat show host Graham Norton (The Graham Norton Show on BBC) appears as one of the commentators in the movie. The movie premiered on Netflix on June 26, 2020.
Nechayeva has also reviewed the movie herself. "I really laughed out loud because there were so many jokes about Eurovision. Eurovision is really a fun event, and there's always something to laugh about. I don't think they mocked it in a bad way at all, but they hit the grotesque pretty well. All this fun and sometimes even absurd mood that they captured came out quite well. I can say it wasn't from a bad angle at all," she said.
