VIDEO: How Not to Beat the Traffic in Tallinn
A 32-year-old man has been jailed for 10 days after attempting to flee a police car with a motorized scooter on Tuesday, carrying out a plethora of traffic violations in downtown Tallinn that were caught on videotape.
Police tried to stop the man on Tuesday afternoon when they noticed that a passenger sitting on the back of the vehicle wasn't wearing a helmet. Instead of pulling over, though, the driver of the scooter dropped off his passenger and attempted to escape.
He finally gave up at a dead end and was handcuffed on Masina tänav.
Harju County Court handed him the jail sentence in light of a record of previous traffic violations and unpaid fines.
"The man seriously endangered the lives of himself and others with his thoughtless behavior, having driven against traffic in a one-way street and running several red lights," said police spokeswoman Helen Uldrich.
