Jet airliner fuselage arrives in Pärnu County, to be used for training
An aviation security company has brought an aeroplane fuselage to Pärnu County, where they will start organizing training programs for different aspects of emergency services, including fire-fighting, and aviation activities. Delivering the 40-meter long fuselage of the scrapped Boeing, minus its wings, was an exercise on its own.
The plane looks a little like a submarine, only with lots of windows, but after some adjustments, training programs will be organized
"This will take some time. Because the plane was simply brought here and left, we are preparing it to get it in a state to offer a quality and secure training for participants. When we finish the product, we can start offering the service, but it's not ready yet," Chief-Executive of the company, Aviation Safety Group, Toomas Mardi, told ETV current affairs show "Aktuaalne kaamera" Wednesday.
The fuselage was brought to Pärnu from Tallinn on the back of a truck, and according to Mardo's description, this wasn't an easy trip. A video, made by Rasmus Unojan, can be found in an article on the original journey by regional daily Pärnu Postimees (link in Estonian), and gives a glimpse of the complexity of the trip.
"We had to use public roads, and our partner Kaarlaid, a heavy transport company, helped us with it, so we managed to get here. People were excited when they heard the reason that the traffic was closed in Märjamaa, Rapla County, as a plane was going to come through. It might have sounded like a prank at first, but in the end, there were plenty of people who took pictures - and the plane really did pass them," Mardo said.
While it would have been great for the plane to arrive in Pärnu County with wings intact, this was not an option, he went on.
"It wasn't even considered. It would not have fit on the road with all the will in the world. We decided that it was not essential. The body of the plane is the main part; wings are secondary," Mardo explained.
