Olympic Committee Confirms Candidates for Sochi
At a meeting yesterday, the Estonian Olympic Committee confirmed a list of 48 athletes contending for a spot in the Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
The final list will be announced by January 27, reported sport.err.ee.
The biggest chunk of athletes on the list are cross-country skiers (16) and biathlonists (12). The list also includes six figure skaters, four Nordic combined competitors, two snowboarders, four downhill skiers, three ski jumpers and one speed skater.
The place allocation has so far been decided in two fields. In the biathlon, there are places for five men and four women. In figure skating, there is a place for one woman and one man in the solo tournament, as well as a place for one pair, but the only qualified pair cannot compete because the man does not have Estonian citizenship.
