Wild West fans bring western culture to Palivere
Metsiku Lääne päev (Wild West Day) celebrated its 20th anniversary at the weekend. Every year since the event's launch, interest had increased and the number of visitors has risen.
Metsiku Lääne päev (Wild West Day) is organized by western club Holster every summer in Palivere, a small borough of Lääne County. Musicians and horses help create an atmosphere reminiscent of the Wilf West.
This year, Vahur Lauri one of the leaders of Holster and editors of "Aktuaalne kaamera" (AK) inspired his colleagues to take part in the activities. Astrid Kannel, the news anchor, took part in for the first time.
Kannel told "Aktuaalne kaamera": "For years, I have heard that my colleague Vahur Lauri is one of the producers and I wanted to see what is happening in this festival. I felt like it is good to enjoy the nice weather somewhere in Estonia where it is raining."
Metsiku Lääne päev has attracted interest from musicians to perform in Palivere. This year's concert role was named "Aasa Riksi õuebluus". Aasa Riks was the grandfather of Vahur Lauri and the concert was held in the courtyard of the building that Riks had built.
Andres Roots, a musician, spoke about his experience at this year's event: "Before or after the performances, I watched some program on the TV which talked about cowboys and how they shoot. It caught my eyes and I got interested in it. The first time, when I came to look around the event, I didn't know anybody. But now, every person is a friend of mine. It is so much fun here!"
