Pärnu Museum elects new director
Aet Maatee, the head of the Estonian Song and Dance Festival Foundation (Eesti Laulu- ja Tantsupeo SA), was elected to be next director of Pärnu Museum. Aldur Vunk, the former long-term director of the museum, was not chosen by the council to continue.
Pärnu Postimees reported Maatee studied cultural education at Tallinn Pedagogical University and cultural organization at the University of Tartu, she worked in local government until 1998 and after in the Ministry of the Culture.
Eduard Odinets, the chairman of the council of Pärnu museum, told the paper four strong candidates took part in the competition, they have ties to the city of Pärnu and have experience in the culture sector.
Odinets said: "The benefits of Maatee are her great experience in the culture sector, a great desire and motivation to contribute to the development of the Pärnu Museum, and a clear and reliable vision of the museum's development opportunities."
Odinets confirmed that neither he nor any other member of the supervisory board had made a proposal to Maatee to return to Pärnu and participate in the competition.
Merilin Piipuu, chairman of the supervisory board of the Song and Dance Festival Foundation, told ERR on Thursday a competition to replace Maatee will be launched in August.
"We are still at the beginning of the process, but by the end of July we will have worked out the conditions that the new manager should meet," Piipuu said.
