Recently Retired Glebova Named Head of Sports Facility
Estonia's best known figure skater Jelena Glebova, who announced her retirement from the sport a few weeks ago, has surprisingly been named as the new head of Tallinn's Tondiraba ice rink.
“I am happy to get the job. I did not even dream of it,” the 24-year-old said at a Tallinn City Government press conference today.
She said she did not participate in any hiring tenders for the job, saying that is a question for city officials.
Deputy Mayor Taavi Aas said it wasn't necessary to put the decision to tender and she was chosen on her past merit.
Glebova joined the Center Party, which has a majority in the city council, a year ago, while Tallinn Mayor Edgar Savisaar is the President of the Estonian Skating Union.
The 27-million-euro facility itself is still under construction and should be completed by the end of the year.
