Two boys injured at Kohila rally, one seriously
Two boys have been injured, one of them seriously, at a car rally in Kohila, after a competing vehicle left the road. The pair had reportedly been viewing the race, which has been called off as a result of the accident, from an out-of-bounds area
"The young people were standing in an off-limits area on the outer curve, where they were not permitted to stand," a Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) spokesperson told ERR Saturday.
"One of the participating rally cars left the track precisely where they were standing. Two children were injured as a result. One child is in a difficult situation," the spokesperson went on.
The PPA says the two boys, aged 10 and 12, have been taken to hospital; the more seriously injured child has been taken to the North Estonian Regional Hospital (PERH) in Tallinn, the other boy has been taken to a children's hospital.
Event organizers in Kohila, Rapla County, about 35 km south of Tallinn, say the event has been called off and an investigation launched into the incident, adding they are unable to provide further comment at this stage.
"Until the circumstances are clarified, the competition organizer cannot share any additional comments," organizers wrote on the Estonian motorsport union's (Eesti autospordi liit) social media page.
