Gallery: Night of museums focuses on passage of time
The 12th Night of Museums (Muuseumiöö) took place Saturday, with around 180 museums participating in the program. Several exhibition places, archives, churches and manor houses also opened their doors, for free, and for five hours in total.
The theme of the event "Öös on aega" ("There is time in the night") challenged the public to think about the course of time, measuring and noticing it. How has the course of time changed during the current, very different year, and what will we do with time and in what kind of time are we living in.
For example, Pärnu Museum turned time back, and invoked memories of childhood. Meanwhile, the Betti Alver Museum, named after a well-known poet who died in 1989, in the town of Jõgeva, the effect of emotions on our sense of time was in focus; the TalTech Museum in Tallinn chose, perhaps fittingly, to discuss whether time travel is actually possible. The Estonian War Museum talked about life during previous wars, while the Padise Monastery looked at the time and timelessness of discussion.
The traditional, annual Night of the Ancient Bonfires was held, concurrently with the museums night, along with day three of Tallinn Music Week.
