Kaia Kanepi out of US Open in straight sets
Kaia Kanepi's US Open tournament comes to a close after losing in straight sets in her round of 64 match against Tunisian player Ons Jabeur (WTA 31st).
Kanepi had to admit defeat in straight sets 2:0 [7:6 (8), 6:0].
In a tight opening set, Jabeur was the first to break a serve, taking a 2:1 lead but Kanepi was able to keep the match level, playing it game-by-game to 6:6. After a 6:4 start for the Estonian in the tiebreak, Kanepi was not able to realize two set points and Jabeur turned it around, taking the tiebreak 10:8.
After a tough battle in the first set, Jabeur was in complete control of the second set, winning six consecutive games in 27 minutes to close the match out.
Kanepi served one ace and also had three double faults in the match, Jabeur had three aces and as many double faults. Of the total points won, Kanepi won 58 and Jabeur 77.
As Kanepi's tournament comes to a close, the second Estonian playing, Anett Kontaveit (WTA 21st), will play in the round of 32 against Polish player Magda Linette (WTA 36th) on Friday at 9 p.m. Estonian time.
