Gallery: Seto Parish opens embassy to improve local life
On Thursday, the Seto flag was raised in Paia rist near Imavere in South Estonia and the Seto embassy was opened for the first time. The venue's aim is to promote Seto culture and events.
The Seto embassy was consecrated by Peeter Uibo, a priest of Miikse and Luhama congregations, and the red-white cross flag of the Seto was hoisted by the rural municipality mayor Raul Kudre.
"In fact, we also plan that since the Seto community in Põltsa County and Central Estonia is quite large, we will also have to do small cultural days or evenings here," Kudre said.
Head of Seto Association Margus Timmo said: "For the Seto culture to survive, it is very important that grandparents live with their grandchildren. This means that when there are jobs in Seto, then grandchildren won't move away from there and the grandchildren can stay with their grandparents.
"Because the jobs are in Seto, we are trying to create sales opportunities for them to give them an opportunity to earn. The other side is to be an open information point and to share information with tourists about events in Seto - Seto revival day, food. All that is valuable to us."
Already anyone can buy a visa from the Seto Embassy, which guarantees access to the Seto Kingdom Day in the village of Kolossova this Saturday, September 5.
