Estonian President and Evelin Ilves are divorcing
The Office of Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves announced today that the president is divorcing First Lady Evelin Ilves, his wife since 2004.
“It is a carefully considered mutual decision. According to agreement, the divorce will come to force on April 30, 2015,” a statement said.
Toomas Hendrik and Evelin Ilves will both continue to look after their daughter. Ärma farm will remain in the ownership of the president.
The president's office asked for understanding and privacy from the public, especially taking into consideration the feelings and interests of the couple's young child, Kadri Keiu (b. 2003).
Toomas Hendrik and Evelin Ilves (then Int-Lambot) married in 2004, but they had been previously dating for several years. The president met his wife while working as Estonia's foreign minister in 1997.
Ilves has been married twice. He has two children with his first wife American psychologist Dr. Merry Bullock: son Luukas Kristjan (b. 1987) and daughter Juulia Kristiine (b. 1992).
