Tallinn hosts U23 athletics championships
Tallinn will host the European Athletics U23 Championships from July 9-12, the 10th edition of the event and the first time it will be held in Estonia.
Altogether 986 young athletes from 46 countries will take to the track (or field) of the historic Kadriorg Stadium in Tallinn. The Dutch team was the first to arrive in Tallinn on Monday.
The entry list includes dozens of U23, junior and youth World and European Championships medalists, as well as those who are returning to Tallinn for U23-s medals after having won European junior medals here in 2011.
Among the rising stars are some already well-known athletes, including indoor world champion in high jump Maria Kushina from Russia, middle distance runners Mark English from Ireland and Artur Kuciapski from Poland, long distance runner Ali Kaya from Turkey, long jumper Radek Juška from the Czech Republic, hurdler Wilhelm Belocian from Belgium, pole vaulter Angelica Bengtsson from Sweden, high jumper Alessia Trost from Italy, 400 meters runner Seren Bundy-Davies from the UK, and many others.
Estonian team has 20 members, including decathletes Janek Õiglane and Grete Šadeiko.
