Party ratings: Social Democrats drop to 10%, IRL still dead last
A survey commissioned by ERR and carried out by Turu-Uuringute AS shows Center still in the lead. The biggest losers are the Social Democrats, down to 10% support, and IRL, who managed to get past the 5% threshold again, but still rank dead last among the parties in parliament.
The opposition is ahead...
The Center Party once again leads the ratings with 28% popular support. The ongoing criminal investigation and the fact that the party’s chairman, Edgar Savisaar, is currently suspended from the office of the mayor of Tallinn don’t seem to affect Center’s popularity.
The Free Party still enjoys 13% support, which is the same rating they got last month. The Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRE) is at 12%, also unchanged, which means that though the Social Democrats suffered from their recently taken confrontation course against the far-right party, EKRE didn't profit from the situation.
… and the coalition lags behind
Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas’ Reform Party comes in second behind the Center Party, with 20% down from 21% in May. The coalition’s junior partners look much worse.
A year ago, the Social Democrats got 18% approval and came in second after the Center Party. In April this year, they had 13%, then 12% in May, and now in June they’re down to 10% support.
Of all the parties in the Riigikogu, only IRL’s 7% are worse. Its ratings have recovered ever so slightly and currently stand at 7%, which is better than last month’s result, which saw them slide below the 5% threshold. But it is still the worst result of any party currently represented in the Riigikogu.
Among the parties not represented in parliament, the Estonian Greens get the most support, namely 2%.
Only those respondents were included in the survey who expressed a political preference. 30% of respondents said they couldn’t say which party they would support if elections were held. Turu-Uuringute AS polled 1,002 people between May 24 and Jun. 7.
