Estonian taxi app Taxify to expand to Budapest after Uber pulls out of Hungary
The Estonian taxi-hailing app Taxify has decided to expand to the city of Budapest after its rival rideshare app Uber suspends operations in Hungary.
"We are holding talks with a partner there to start providing services together," Taxify co-founder Martin Villig told BNS. In his words, the new legislation that forced Uber to leave Hungary does not affect Taxify as the company intends to comply with the new taxi regulation.
Uber announced on Wednesday that it would be suspending its operations in Hungary as of July 24 due to new legislation that would make it impossible for it to continue to operate.
The new law will permit Hungarian authorities to block access to taxi services who do not have a proper dispatch center.
