Over 230 farms open doors on Estonia's second National Open Farms Day
The second ever National Open Farms Day took place across Estonia on Sunday, during which over 230 farms and agricultural businesses opened their doors — and gates — to visitors.
Visitors had the opportunity to get up close and personal with livestock and poultry, grain crops, aromatic herbs and medicinal plants as well as beekeeping.
Participating businesses also included dairy farms, wine, beer and cider producers, nurseries as well as various local businesses involved in rural tourism.
Each participating farm or business organized its own program for visitors.
The 2015 National Open Farms Day was organized by a total of 234 agricultural and rural businesses, the Estonian Ministry of Rural Affairs, the Rural Economy Research Center, the Central Union of Estonian Farmers and the Estonian Farmers' Federation. Its organization was funded by the Estonian Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 as well as the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Last July, a total of 147 farms and agricultural businesses opened their doors and gates to visitors for Estonia's first National Open Farms Day for an estimated total of 45,000 unique visits.
