Wind farm in Aidu to be completed in 2019
The foundation of the first wind turbine of the Aidu wind farm is currently being cast and the turbine itself should be standing by the end of the year, with the entire wind farm expected to be completed in 2019, said Oleg Sõnajalg, a board member of Eleon AS, the company also developing the wind generation complex in Northeastern Estonia.
"The Aidu wind farm will be made up of 30 turbines; its construction is underway, and two big substations have been completed, Sõnajalg said at the Äripäev conference titled Tööstuse Äriplaan 2017 ("Industry Business Plan 2017") on Tuesday.
He noted that while as a rule, nobody wanted wind generators to be put up near where they live, wind farm developers were welcome in former mining regions such as Aidu.
"We are giving these mind areas a new boost, and creating new infrastructure," added Sõnajalg.
