Rising sea levels allows normally scheduled ferry service to Hiiumaa to resume
Sea levels between the Estonian mainland and it's second-largest island Hiiumaa, which had reached exceptionally low levels over the weekend, have begun to rise again, allowing all ferries to resume service on the route connecting the two by Tuesday afternoon.
The ferry operator, Port of Tallinn subsidiary TS Laevad, said that sea levels allowed the biggest of the vessels, St. Ola, to sail out of Heltermaa Harbor at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and continue operation according to schedule.
During the most critical period of especially low sea levels, the Hiiumaa route could only be served by the smaller ferries Harilaid and Kõrgelaid, while the second-largest ferry, the Regula, was able to augment their service as sea levels permitted from time to time.
