Estonian businesses will be heading into the new year with recruitment plans as almost three-fourths of them wish to hire more staff, half plan to create new jobs and one third are planning on increasing wages, it appears from a survey conducted by recruitment portal CV Keskus.
Nearly 75 percent of the companies polled plan on hiring one new employee, while one fifth plan on hiring two and one quarter plan on hiring three to five new employees, said Henry Auväärt, CV Keskus' communications manager for the Baltics. A year ago, just 60.6 percent of employers had spoken of plans to hire more staff.
The primary reasons for the increased need for new staff included a general shortage of labor and younger people changing jobs every two to three years, which forced employers to decide between raising wages and trying to find new challenges within the company for employees wishing to leave or hiring new workers, Auväärt explained.
Some 55.6 percent of employers plan to create new jobs next year, compared to 46.7 percent a year ago.
One third of employers interviewed are considering raising wages in 2017, with planned increases of mostly approximately ten percent. More than 90 percent of employers who plan to raise wages intend to adjust wages by up to ten percent.
At the same time, 41.7 percent of employers do not plan to adjust wages and 22.8 percent are undecided. Some 2.3 percent of employers plan to lower wages as well.
CV Keskus' annual labor market survey covered more than 750 employers of a total of approximately 80,000 people.
