Estonian carrier Nordica to increase flights by 25% in 2017
Estonian state-owned airline Nordica is planning to increase the number of flights out of Tallinn by 25 next year both by increasing the number of departures on existing routes as well as launching a new route to Hamburg.
In addition to launching its new Hamburg route in spring 2017, departures are to be added to the airline’s Brussels, Stockholm, Vienna and Oslo routes and a third weekly departure will be introduced to its seasonal Odessa route as well, Nordica stated in a press release on Wednesday. Flight frequency on the Estonian airline’s Warsaw route will also increase in cooperation with its new strategic partner LOT Polish Airlines.

According to board chairman Jaan Tamm, its new Hamburg route had been in the works for some time already. "We are now operating all six of our CRJ Series aircraft and will be adding a couple more to our fleet next year," explained Tamm. "This will enable us to increase the frequency of flights and gradually launch new routes."
Service to Split, Rijeka, Berlin and Nice will be back on Nordica’s summer schedule next year as well.
"Vilnius Airport is scheduled for extensive reconstruction work next summer and will be closed for service," explained Tamm, adding that from July 14 through Aug. 18, Nordica would be flying to Lithuania’s second largest city of Kaunas instead.
The number of flights operated by Nordica out of Tallinn is set to grow by a total of 25 percent in 2017. The company is planning to operate more than 90 percent of these flights using its own fleet.
Nordica, or Nordic Aviation Group AS, was established in order to ensure the continuation of air connections to and from Estonia after previous state carrier Estonian Air went out of business in fall 2015. It carried a total of 307,606 passengers during the first ten months of 2016.
