Estonian businessman Enn Veskimägi receives Russian Order of Friendship
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov has presented Estonian businessman Enn Veskimägi with the Order of Friedship of the Russian Federation for his service in the interest of the Russian-Estonian border treaty.
Veskimägi received the decoration for his part in developing bilateral cooperation in the areas of business, culture, and humanitarian work. Estonian ambassador to Russia Arti Hilpus was present at the ceremony.
Years of work with the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in his function as chairman of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry had led to a agreement between the two organizations. One of the most important priorities of their work had been to help along a bilateral border treaty, Veskimägi said.
Other agreements in the interest of businesses on both sides of the border had been reached, among them one over double taxation, and protecting investments, he added.
According to Veskimägi, relations with Russia need to normalize, and businesses cannot just operate with regard to the political situation.
Other Estonian recipients of the Order of Friendship are former President Arnold Rüütel, conductor Eri Klas, actress Ita Ever, singers Anu Kaal and Anne Veski, and former director of the Rescue Board Kalev Timberg.
