Tallinn Central Library closes three libraries, limited services continue
As of Monday, March 1, Tallinn Central Library (Keskraamatukogu), as well as the Paepealse and Männiku libraries, are temporarily closed, amid rising COVID-19 rates. Some services, particularly for children and the elderly, are being retained remotely.
Other libraries under the Tallinn Central Library's ambit will continue offering services, but these are limited as regards on-site operations. The library recommends staying at home and using e-libraries where Estonian literature and foreign language audiobooks, e-books, magazines and music are available.
Folders can be ordered only with preorders, and contact-free. As a paid service, it is possible to order books to parcel machines all over Estonia in addition.
All on-site events and training programs at the library have been canceled. In case of emergencies, it is permissible to book a computer for 30 minutes, and some libraries are offering newspaper reading services still.
Librarians can answer inquiries by phone and e-mail, as well as questions concerning everyday life. It is also possible to participate in training programs and library lessons via video-link. Librarians are in fact awaiting children's calls, to read books to them.
Children are also being offered learning assistance and a variety of activities via Discord. Seniors are also invited to attend Skype chat club meetings, listen to newspapers being read, and seek advice on digital issues.
