Friday brings mild temperatures up to +11 degrees, but overcast conditions
Mild ambient temperatures up to as high as +11 degrees are forecast daytime Friday in Estonia, but with the strong winds of the second half of Thursday remaining, patches of rain, and overcast skies, any sense of spring will be quite fleeting, for the time being.
Southwestern Estonia and the islands are forecast to be the coldest part of the country today; northeastern Estonia is the mildest, a reversal of what is often the case at this time of year.
Speaking of the time of year, winter is not quite done with us even now – a cold snap will arrive Sunday, and will result in the mercury dropping below zero again at night as we start the new week.
Thursday night to early Friday morning was drizzly, but mild. Temperatures were above zero across Estonia, the coldest (+2 degrees) in Pärnu. However, the strong winds which had picked up Thursday afternoon remained.
Similar conditions continue into the morning, though any showers are confined to the North and Northwest. Ambient temperatures range from +3, again in Pärnu, to +6 in the Center and Northeast.
The winds remain and will have swung round to the Southwest, though are slightly lighter at 6-10 meters per second, in gusts up to 13 meters per second. The cloud cover remains.
During the day, temperatures will rise to a fairly balmy +10 degrees in Eastern and Southern Estonia, 7-9 degrees in the North and West, and chilliest (+5-8 degrees) in the Southwest and over the islands.
While it is set to dry out as the day goes on, patches of showers are forecast for much of the country again, save for the southernmost part of the country, and also Saaremaa.
Winds will shift to a more southerly direction and will pick up a little, gusting up to 16 meters per second.
The time of year when it is getting lighter and lighter all the time and yet is certainly chilly out is upon us. Dawn on Friday is at 6.36 a.m., and by Tuesday, the sun rises at 6.24 a.m.. Sunset is at 6.24 p.m. on Friday, and at 6.33 p.m. on the Tuesday (Tallinn time).
Saturday remains mild, but wet, windy, and cloudy, but conditions are set to turn cold again on Sunday – on average around zero, while Sunday and Monday nights are forecast to see temperatures as low as -5 degrees, even as the average ambient temperatures during the first two days of the new week will be above zero again.
