Ratas to meet with NATO secretary general in Brussels
Prime Minister Jüri Ratas will be taking part in a meeting of the European Council in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, prior to which he will meet with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Heads of government and state of the EU will begin the summmit on Thursday with the election of the European Council President, following which they will discuss the economy, security, migration and the situation in the Western Balkans. On Friday, the leaders of 27 EU member states will meet informally to prepare for the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties.
Ratas' meeting with Stoltenberg on Thursday morning will focus on the arrival of the NATO battle group in Estonia, the summit of NATO leaders scheduled to take place in May as well as other topical security policy-related issues.
Following their meeting, Ratas and Stoltenberg will give a joint press conference at 12:15 p.m. Estonian time.
On Thursday morning, the Estonian prime minister also plans to meet with European Parliament President Antonio Tajani and Manfred Weber, chairman of the parliamentary group of the European People's Party. He will also meet during the summit with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.
Ratas is scheduled to return to Estonia late Friday night.
