City of Tallinn involved in 665 court cases in 2016
In 2016 the city of Tallinn was involved in 665 court cases, of which 270 remained unsettled at the end of the year. Some €5 million in financial claims were brought against the city as well.
Altogether 395 new cases that involved the city reached the courts in 2016. 92 were administrative cases, 303 were civil actions, and two concerned criminal cases, daily Eesti Päevaleht wrote.
Issues included the financing of private schools, a city sales tax, an advertising tax, financing special needs education, property reform, and damage the city took in two criminal cases.
The Tallinn Municipal Police registered 36,705 misdemeanors, of which 42 were taken to court and 22 concerned the city’s public transport.
At the end of 2016, the city faced financial claims in the amount of €4,963,942 and 79 cents, the paper wrote.
