April natural gas imports up 4.9 percent on year
A total of 456 gigawatt-hours of natural gas was imported to Estonia in April, 4.9 percent more than during the same month last year, transmission system operator Elering said.
The biggest amount of natural gas imported to Estonia within a 24-hour period in April was 18.6 gigawatt-hours; the smallest amount was 8.6 gigawatt-hours.
The volume of domestic transmission service rendered by Elering grew by 7.1 percent year over year to 457 gigawatt-hours. The increase was largely attributable to colder weather, as the average air temperature in April was lower by more than two degrees Celsius than in April 2016. The reserve capacity of the transmission pipeline decreased by 7.8 percent year over year to 48 gigawatt-hours at the end of the month.
No traffic took place in the transit pipeline passing through Southeastern Estonia last month. In April 2016, 606 gigawatt-hours of gas was exported from Latvia to Russia by that route.
The average price of natural gas traded on the Lithuanian GET Baltic gas exchange was €18.86 per megawatt-hour last month, while the average price on the Finnish Kaasuporssi was €20.63 per megawatt-hour.
In April, 1,044 gigawatt-hours of natural gas was extracted from the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility in Latvia and 15.6 percent of the capacity of the storage facility was utilized at the end of the month.
