Riigikogu confirms Janar Holm as Estonia's next auditor general
The Riigikogu on Wednesday voted to confirm Janar Holm as Estonia's next auditor general.
Of the 89 MPs present at the vote, 64 voted in favor of Holm's authorization, while ten voted against it; there were 15 abstentions.
Only the Free Party said ahead of the vote that they did not support Holm for auditor general and would abstain from the vote.
According to the Constitution, the term of office of the Auditor General is five years. Current Auditor General Alar Karis' term is to conclude on April 7.
Holm, who currently works as deputy secretary general for labor and employment policy at the Ministry of Social Affairs, was recommended for the position by President Kersti Kaljulaid.
He previously worked for nine years as secretary general for the Ministry of Education and Research, prior to which he held various positions at the same ministry. Holm has also previously served as director of the State Examination and Qualification Centre (REKK) and CEO of the Estonian Traders Association.
Holm, 41, is married and has two children.
