Ida-Viru County: Silmet to lay off 65 employees in June
Rare earth processor Silmet, the largest employer in Ida-Viru County, has announced that they will lay off 65 in June this year. The company currently employs 506.
As ERR’s Russian news reported, the company has announced the lay-offs, but hasn’t informed the affected employees yet. Silmet told ERR that as CEO Signe Kask was currently on a business trip, the company couldn’t comment.
The lay-offs apparently are connected to Silmet’s procurement of new technology and rearranging its production. According to currently available information, some of the affected employees will retire, others have expressed the wish to leave, and for the remaining people Silmet will try to find positions elsewhere in the company.
