According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2017 the dwelling price index increased by 3.4 percent compared to the second quarter, and by 4.7 percent compared to the third quarter of the previous year.
Compared to the previous quarter, the prices of apartments increased by 3.5 percent, and the prices of houses by 2.9 percent.
Compared to the third quarter of last year, the prices of apartments increased by 4.2 percent and those of houses by 6.2 percent. The prices of apartments increased by 3.6 percent in Tallinn, by 4.4 percent in areas bordering on the cities of Tallinn, Tartu, and Pärnu, and by 6.7 percent in the rest of the country.
In the third quarter of 2017 the owner-occupied housing price index changed by 6.4 percent compared to the second quarter, and by 2.2 percent compared to the third quarter of last year.
The owner-occupied housing price index expresses changes in the prices of objects new to the household sector as well as other goods and services that households purchase in their role as owner-occupiers. The index consists of four parts: the acquisition of dwellings, other services related to the acquisition of dwellings, major repairs and maintenance, and insurance connected with dwellings.
The dwelling price index expresses changes in the square meter prices in transactions made by households buying different types of apartments or houses.
