Cleveron installs test package robot for ASDA in Manchester
According to business paper Äripäev, package machines producer Cleveron installed a first machine at an ASDA supermarket in December. The British supermarket retailer is testing Cleveron's product.
After Cleveron gained new customers in Amercian retailer chain Walmart and Spanish holding company Inditex (owners of Zara, among other brands) last year, it is now working with the United Kingdom's third-largest supermarket retailer.
ASDA is Britain's number three after Tesco and Sainsbury's and has a network of over 600 supermarkets around the country, as well as an online shop, Äripäev wrote on Tuesday.
The paper quoted Cleveron's CEO, Arno Kütt, saying that they installed a package robot in Manchester in December last year. Kütt said the company had also been approached by Amazon.
"But we weren't prepared to go ahead under the conditions they offered," Kütt told the paper, adding that Amazon had wanted to take over the production as well as all the rights to their product.
The decision not to go on with Amazon had come from the Estonian side, Kütt confirmed.
According to Kütt, Cleveron will go on distributing its products only under its own brand, and will retain all the rights to its products.
