GALLERY: Rakvere surprises with Christmas tree made of old windows
The town of Rakvere in northern Estonia received international attention last year for its novel environment-friendly public Christmas tree made out of waste wood from local mills. This year, the town has erected a tree made of old windows.
For a second year, Rakvere has opted to let the students of the local vocational school build a “tree” to decorate the town square from recycled materials, instead of felling a live tree.
Designed by town artist Teet Suur, this year's tree is made of 121 old wooden-framed, colored windows. The installation is 12 meters high and has been constructed by local carpentry students. It took two days to erect.
The lighting solution for the tree is yet to be completed, Suur told ERR News.

The tree was featured in the Guardian's gallery of best Christmas trees around the world.
The town's last tree made of recycled wood earned a surprise spot in the Huffington Post's “The Most Over-the-Top Christmas Trees of 2014” list.
