New Estonian Literary Magazine Out
The newest issue of the Estonian Literary Magazine has been published, with a colorful sampling of literary ongoings.
Highlights of the English-language journal include translator Jean-Pierre Minaudier's discussion on the "surprising success" of Andrus Kivirähk’s book "The Man Who Spoke Snakish" in France. "He also undermines quite a few convictions of Estonians about 'something uniquely Estonian,'" a press release from the publication said.
In another piece, the poetry translator Ilmar Lehtpere discusses the difficulties and joys of poetry translation.
There is also an article about a June seminar on translating historical novels and an article by Maarja Vaino entitled "A.H. Tammsaare Forever."
Piret Viires gives an overview of literary awards in 2012 and the magazine has a regularly occurring section of short reviews of recent Estonian literature.
ELM has been published by the Estonian Institute since 1995, every spring and autumn. It is the only English-language magazine promoting Estonian literature.
