Ukrainian Defence Council: Russia wages hybrid war on Ukraine and the EU
Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Oleksandr Turchynov, said yesterday that Russia continued to wage a hybrid war not only against Ukraine, but also against the European Union.
Turchynov made this statement in a meeting with the speakers of Nordic and Baltic countries’ parliaments.
The meeting discussed the current situation in the region, in particular the events taking place in the east of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council’s press service reported.
Turchynov said that Ukraine had been able “to stop the advance of Russian occupation troops to the west.”
“At the same time, despite the Minsk agreement, Russian aggression hasn’t stopped. The occupation of Crimea and part of the Donbas is ongoing. Our territory is shelled every day,” he said.
In Turchynov’s words, Russian air strikes in Syria and the destruction of local civilian infrastructure have caused the migration to the West to increase. “As a result, weapons and terrorists make their way to the EU,” he said.
The speakers of the Nordic and Baltic countries’ parliaments are currently visiting Ukraine.
