Factory in Ahtme Revives Production of Cinder Blocks
The Ahtme building materials factory in Ida-Viru County, which was closed down nearly two years ago, has re-opened and is gradually resuming production of cinder blocks from oil shale burning residue.
The factory, formerly belonging to Silbet but now renamed VKG Plokk after being taken over by the oil shale processing company Viru Keemia Grupp (VKG), has already hired 15 people and is gradually beginning work, ERR radio reported.
By next spring the factory is expected to resume full capacity, said Jaanus Purga, member of the board at VKG.
According to Purga, the company is determined to employ all the former factory workers who possess the necessary know-how. Years ago, the Silbet factory gave work to nearly 200.
