Following its meeting on Wednesday, the Estonian Reform Party's Board of Directors confirmed its choice of Honorary Party Chairman Siim Kallas as the party's official candidate for the 2016 presidential elections.

"With this decision, Siim Kallas will go lead the presidential elections, and now it is the place of other parliamentary parties to make a decision," said party chairman Taavi Rõivas.

Rõivas noted that the Reform Party is naturally to find support for Kallas from among other parties, however of course such support could not be automatically expected, much less demanded.

"In case the Riigikogu fails to elect the president, the Reform Party will then have a chance to support Marina Kaljurand in the electoral college," said Rõivas. "If necessary, the party's board of directors will convene before each ballot round to discuss the results of talks with other parliamentary parties."

In order to help find support for Kallas within the Riigikogu, the party's board of directors formed a negotiations delegation, to which belong Kallas and Reform Party Secretary General Reimo Nebokat.
