Interview: Pavlo Klimkin says Russia at war with both Ukraine and EU
What got Ukraine where it is today? Who is responsible for the mistakes of the past 25 years? What’s the oligarchs’ role in politics? ETV+ talked to Ukrainian foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin. Here is the full-length video interview in English.
In his interview with ETV+’s Dmitri Fefilov, Klimkin said that Ukraine was now moving in the right direction despite enormous challenges.
Corruption represented a major challenge, the minister said. But he also pointed out that the old system couldn’t be changed overnight. Asked about mistakes made by past governments, Klimkin pointed to the fact that plenty of former government members, including former president Viktor Yanukovich, were now living in Russia, and that considering his country’s present situation, this was very symbolic.
Klimkin sees Russia at war not only with Ukraine, but also with the European Union. While Russia’s war against Ukraine had an obvious military dimension, the EU was under attack economically as well as in terms of propaganda, he said.
