Gallery: Estonia's first infantry fighting vehicles arrive from Netherlands
The first of the 44 CV9035 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) purchased from the Netherlands arrived in Estonia on Friday.
On Friday morning, a cargo ship carrying a total of twelve CV9035 IFVs and one armored recovery vehicle (ARV) docked at Paldiski's North Port. Following unloading, the twelve vehicles would be transported to the 1st Infantry Brigade at Tapa Army Base.
In late 2014, Estonia signed a contract with the Netherlands for the purchase of 44 CV9035NL IFVs and six Leopard 1 tank-based support vehicles. The procurement is worth €113 million.
The IFVs will arrive in Estonia between 2016-2018. The purchased military vehicles are used, the unit of which is seven years old. Before their handover to Estonia, all of the vehicles will undergo maintenance and, if necessary, repairs.
In addition to the Dutch IFVs, Estonia will also be purchasing a total of 37 IFV CV90 bodies from Norway, which will be be rebuilt as armored support vehicles, for a total of €635,000. The vehicles from Norway are expected to arrive in Estonia sometime this and next year.
