Late Monday night, Estonian Minister of Defence Hannes Hanso thanked and presented letters of appreciation to the instructors of the Estonian Special Operations Force (ESTSOF) who provided training to the special operations forces of Ukraine.

"The inpot of the Estonian special forces is very important militarily and helps achieve Estonia's security policy goals to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine," said Hanso. "Special operations forces as a strategic capability have a clear role and output in implementing Estonia's security and defense policy."

During Hanso's August visit to Ukraine, the latter's Minister of Defence Gen. Stepan Poltorak thanked Estonia for its support and the training of Ukraine's own special forces, highlighting the Estonian special forces' high level of professionalism.

Since November 2015, the ESTSOF has participated in the US-led training mission JMTG-U (Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine), where members of both respective countries' special operations forces have worked together on training the special operations personnel of a Ukrainian regiment taking part in combat activity in an anti-terror operation in Eastern Ukraine's Donetsk and Lugansk Oblasts.
