Construction on a building complex at Ämari Air Base in Northwestern Estonia which was originally scheduled to be finished this spring has now been completed, officials reported on Monday.

"The building has been handed over," Ministry of Defence spokesperson Andres Sang told BNS. "The total cost is approximately 10 million euros, all extras included. The project was left largely unchanged."

Asked about the three million euro difference in cost compared to the size of the contract previously announced by contractor Nordecon, the spokesperson was unable to say whether the three million euros represented the cost of the work performed by other parties outside the project or the construction costs had been revised.

"What I got from the project manager is the final cost, which is ten million," Sang explained. "Seven million may be the cost published by the contractor in its disclosure to the stock exchange, and the main contractor did not carry out the entire job. It didn't have to do some of the work, such as low-voltage works."

The recently completed complex consists of living quarters, rooms for headquarters and workshop and storage rooms and has a total enclosed area of approximately 6,000 square meters (over 64,500 square feet). Nordecon was also responsible for building the project's heating, sewage and water supply infrastructure.

The Ämari building complex constitutes part of the infrastructure being developed for allied forces.
