Estonian court annuls extradition of alleged Ukrainian separatist
The Tallinn Administrative Court decided on Wednesday to annul the decision of the Government to extradite Vladimir Poljakov to Ukraine. Poljakov is suspected of having fought in the ranks of the separatists in eastern Ukraine.
The court found that since not all the facts necessary for a decision could be ascertained, the extradition order was therefore unlawful and to be annulled, spokespeople for the court told the Baltic News Service.
The court also ordered the state to pay Poljakov’s legal expenses. The decision can be appealed against within the next 30 days.
Estonia’s Internal Security Service detained Poljakov in February 2015 when he attempted to cross the border to Russia, with the intention of continuing to Lugansk from there. The Government decided to grant Ukraine's request for his extradition in December last year.
