Obama's Visit Costs Upwards of €0.5 Million
Interior Minister Hanno Pevkur said the exact costs of US President Barack Obama's visit will be calculated after September 3, when he leaves, but they should be above the 500,000-euro mark.
Pevkur said at today's government press conference that they will keep costs down by housing police drawn in from outside the capital in Academy of Security Sciences buildings, saying that a large slice of the costs will come from overtime for the 1,500 to 1,700 additional police officers on duty during the visit.
As Obama is expected to land in Tallinn at around midnight and will leave in the late afternoon, say 18:00, that would work out at around 30,000 euros per hour.
